Is there a way to change yarn colors while knitting without getting that ugly stripe between my two colors?
Do you mean horizontally or vertically? For vertical color changes (changing color within a row) simply twist the old yarn around the new one. For horizontal color changes (a new row in a new color) it depends on the stitch. For properly-done garter stitch, you will always have it. For stockinette stitch, it only shows up on the purl side. To get a smoother change in garter stitch, fudge. Purl the new row where the color changes. You will have a front and a back to your work, but you will have color changes without that extra stripe.
