how to take care of a killdeer egg?
the mother was eaten by a cat and when i got over there to help. it was a lil to late i saw the egg and didn't want to leave it there. i have it under a lamp and i made a nest out of some fabric and a towel i need to know how to make an incubator some thing to keep him warm cause the lamps not working that well
You are doing just fine. Put the lamp in a cardboard box, and put the nest in it. The box will increase the heat. Add a dish of water for a little humidity, turn the egg over a couple of times and wait. Time will tell. Eggs usually hatch in about 21 days or so, so pull out a calendar and mark off 21 days and wait. If nothing happens after your 21 days have passed, the egg is no good.
Now if you get lucky and the egg hatches, be prepared for baby!
The following Link is for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website FAQ page. This website is great - they have been operating their bird information website for several years now, and are really good at what they do, which is study birds and their habitats.
