Is it okay to have a combined reception and housewarming?
My husband and I were married about two weeks ago and bought a house about one week ago. We didn't have a wedding or reception. It was very quick and relatively quiet. Just immediate family and very close friends at the courthouse. We wanted to have a reception/housewarming in June and invite all of our family and friends over for a barbeque. Is this acceptable? If so, how do I word the invitations? I bought plain off-white paper. The cardboard type paper like you would normally see behind the vellum on a formal invitation. I want to print invitations off my computer onto these but don't know how to word it. Any suggestions? Is this a major faux pas?
I would say that it's not bad etiquette. It would only make sense that you would want to have everyone over for both occasions at once, in order to avoid making people feel pressured to buy more than just one present for you two. And I think that if people stopped and thought about it reasonably, they would feel less pressured with that thought in mind.
Personally, I would word it exactly as is. Wedding reception/housewarming party. If you want, provide an explanation if anyone asks.
