I would try to document it and then turn it over to the police - getting a receipt. I would want to know what their policy was about unclaimed property. Perhaps no one would claim it? Fat chance. Anyway, I would turn it in. Someone turned my wallet in once with $80 and credit cards in it. I know that's not a lot of money, but it was heartwarming to know they were honest.
