Will metal screening wire, woven into fabric, block radiation?
There is a company in China that makes maternity tops and dresses that claim to be radiation proof. Made of 30% Screening Wire, 55% Cotton and 15% Polyester. I take x-rays daily at work. Just wondering if this would be a wise purchase.
X-rays, no. They are too tiny... if they're able to slip through the atoms of most solid objects, no wire mesh has a chance.
Interestingly enough it might actually work for *microwave* radiation... a wire mesh is pretty much what keeps the microwaves in your oven from leaking out and cooking you. I suspect that this company is scam artists, since they're implying a lot of things by just saying "blocks radiation", few of which are true... but the principle might work. But I doubt you spend much time in the microwave:)
