Would I be in violation of the flag rules, section 8d, if I sew myself an American flag outfit for July 4th?
I sew most of my outfits and plan to be at a family reunion that day. Section 8d states "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general."
I saw some cotton fabric at the local fabric store with red and white stripes. I don't recall seeing the blue part with the fifty stars on it though.
No it's not an actual flag, it's just fabric with red and white stripes, so it should be fine. I doubt that they would be selling it if it wasn't okay.
